Top 5 Harry Potter afternoon teas in London – first-hand reviews
1. Harry Potter Studios London® afternoon tea, Watford
The one and only – nothing beats the Harry Potter Studios’ afternoon tea. I visited this Summer and it’s a truly breathtaking experience. Afternoon tea is served in The Backlot Cafe (opposite The Chocolate Frog Cafe), and upon arrival, you’re greeted with ambient music from the Potter films playing throughout the area.
For the savoury, you can tuck into ‘Molly Weasley’s sandwich selection’ plus other savoury bites like a (better than it sounds) Hogwarts meat pie. But the real joy comes from the sweet treats. Dumbledore’s sherbet lemon macarons, a chocolate Golden Snitch, Butterbeer-inspired scones, and more. You even get a cauldron tea brewer!
I’ll be honest, the quality of the food at the Warner Brother Studio tour is largely so-so. I actually had a very lacklustre ice cream from The Chocolate Frog Cafe, but that’s for another post. However, they really do pull out all the stops for the afternoon tea. It’s a (pardon the pun) magical experience, and let’s be honest, it’s the one and only official Harry Potter afternoon tea in London. So that says something!

The five-star Vintry and Mercer Hotel do a very luxurious magic-themed afternoon tea. It’s not strictly Harry Potter-themed, but it sure is fun for any budding wizards or witches. For me, the sweet treats stole the show – white chocolate and blueberry maccaron owls and a ‘Box of Bones’ filled with chewy skeleton pieces and chocolate soil. It’s very fun and comes to your table with dry ice flowing from the top of the afternoon tea stand!
They also have menus for adults and kids as well as can cater to vegetarians. The adult’s menu comes with a few magic-themed cocktails – I tried the Witches Brew which was a blend of bourbon, mango syrup and something else fiery! It blew my head off but I would highly recommend it.

| Pros ✅ | Cons ❌ |
| Afternoon tea that puts as much emphasis on the food as it does the experience | Hotel is located in a more corporate part of London |
- 💬 User review: “We took my daughter here for the magic of afternoon tea experience. It was a last minute find due to our first choice cancelling our booking only 5 days prior. It turned out to be the best for us because this was an excellent afternoon tea. The room is atmospheric and you are given exquisite menus which glow in the dark. My daughter got to mix up the first potion which was drinkable and so she was already having a blast.” Francessca, TripAdvisor

Georgia House Hotel offers a wizard afternoon tea that ticks all the boxes: luxury, immersive and delicious. The afternoon tea menu is three courses (with options available for vegan sorcerers too), and lets you tuck into little treats like lightning bolt scones, beastly bakewells and more. There’s even a dry ice cauldron! And for an adorable touch, you can even don a hat and wizard robes to celebrate the occasion.
Plus, as part of the experience you get to concoct your own potion under the guidance of their Head Wizard! And by that I mean you’re given instructions delivered via a scroll. But goblin goo, basilisk blood, unicorn tears, you name it – you can sample it all at the Georgian House Hotel.
💬 Editor’s note: Though lesser known, this is really a standout afternoon tea experience. It’s not just an immersive Harry Potter-themed high tea, the food is genuinely delicious. The other soft drinks on offer are top notch too – I was particularly taken with the Tears of a Wizard Cream Soda.

| Within walking distance from Victoria and a luxury, immersive afternoon tea | Only served weekends |
- 💬 User review: “I would visit again. The Food and Teas were exquisite and we were catered to include our individual needs.” Sharon C, TripAdvisor
- Price: £40 per wizard
- Location: 35-39 St George’s Dr, Pimlico, SW1V 4DG
4. ‘The Afternoon Tea That Must Not Be Named’ at Great Northern Hotel, King’s Cross
King’s Cross is of course pivotal to the Potter books, so what better place for a wizard-themed afternoon tea? Though this high tea doesn’t offer the immersive thrills of the others on our list, it does have a delightful menu. The savoury options include ‘Enchanted’ arancini and ‘’Halo-Ham-ora’’ watercress and English mustard sandwiches. And for the sweet, you can tuck into Butterbeer-inspired panna cotta (as good as it sounds), chocolate (mousse) frogs, plus traditional scones with jam and cream.

| Pros ✅ | Cons ❌ |
| A more affordable option and only £39.50 per person | Lacks the magic and fun of other Harry Potter high teas |
- Price: £39.50 per person
- Location: Pancras Rd, London, N1C 4TB
5. Wizard’s afternoon tea at Blue Orchid Hotel, Tower Hill
Head on over to the five-star Tower Suites by Blue Orchid Hotels for a wizard and magic-themed afternoon tea. You’ll get a three-tiered selection of treats including a Sorting Hat carrot cake, salted caramel Golden Snitch and a creamy Butter Beer. The food was pretty tasty and I’d this afternoon has sweet treats that are very obviously inspired by Harry Potter. The best bit for me, however, was the dress-up elements – you get a pair of Harry-inspired glasses, house tie and a wand to play with!
Though this is a great afternoon tea, there are some quite poor TripAdvisor reviews for this afternoon tea from a few years back. When I went, the service and food were great – but it’s always worth keeping in mind. Hence the reason this is lower on our list!

| Pros ✅ | Cons ❌ |
| Directly Harry Potter inspired and very affordable at £35 | Mixed reviews on TripAdvisor despite our good experience |
- Price: £35
- Location: 100 Minories, London EC3N 1JY
