Best afternoon tea deliveries reviewed

1. M&S afternoon tea delivery letterbox

Buy on M&S

For £20, M&S do a great quality and budget-friendly afternoon tea letterbox delivery. You get all M&S products, including cake slices like Victoria Sandwich, carrot cake with walnuts, and millionaire shortbread bar. Plus, you get their Luxury Gold tea bags along with a selection of shortbread and Viennese biscuits. The tea is one of their signature blends sourced from Fairtrade growers, and in my opinion, is actually one of the most flavourful of most breakfast teas out there.

The only downside? You don’t actually get scones and jam with this afternoon tea delivery! So, although the quality of the food and overall presentation is second to none, you might be left feeling like something’s missing. Regardless, for £20 and free delivery, it’s undeniably one of the best afternoon tea gifts in the UK right now.

  • Our score: 4/5
  • Price: £20
  • Delivery: Included
  • Delivery price: Free delivery
  • Contains: Victoria Sandwich Cake (75g) x 2, Millionaires Shortbread Bar (50g) x 2, Carrot Cake with Walnuts (75g) x 2, All Butter Shortbread Fingers (84g), All Butter Milk Viennese Chocolate Dipped Fingers (135g), Luxury Gold Tea Bags (16 Bags)
ProsCons
One of the most affordable afternoon tea gifts on the marketNo scones, jam or cream included!
High-quality cakes and biscuits that you’d expect from M&S
Free delivery and fits through your letterbox

2. Fortnum & Mason ‘Teatime’ gift box

Buy on Fortnum & Mason

Fortnum & Mason have been doing gift boxes since the 1730s, so I had high hopes for this one. First things first, the actual afternoon delivery is beautiful and comes in a magnetic Fortnum & Mason blue-green box. Inside, you get Royal Blend loose-leaf tea, all-butter Chocolate Pearl biscuits (Fortnum’s take on chocolate chip), plus their classic strawberry preserve. It’s all divine – the preserve in particular is the best jam I’ve ever had.

Why isn’t Fortnum & Mason in the top spot? Although the quality is undeniable, this is a pricer afternoon tea delivery and contains much less in comparison to M&S. Plus, unless you have an infuser, the loose-leaf tea might not be ideal for everyone. Think of this one as a gift to impress your fanciest friend!

  • Our score: 4/5
  • Price: £35
  • Delivery: 3-5 working days
  • Delivery price: £5.95
  • Contains: Piccadilly Chocolate Pearl Biscuits (200g), Royal Blend Tea (250g) Loose Leaf Caddy, Strawberry Preserve (340g)
ProsCons
Superb tea, biscuits and strawberry preserveContains just three items (in comparison, M&S includes six)
Beautifully presented gift box
Historic brand that screams luxury

3. Bloom & Wild afternoon tea delivery

Buy on Bloom & Wild

The Bloom & Wild afternoon tea delivery is pretty great. You get four scones, two mini jars of cream, a mini jar of jam, plus lemon drizzle cakes and a brownie each. I’d say this is a very complete afternoon tea gift set. It covers all the bases and does them well! It doesn’t just feel like a collection of pre-existing products, it feels very curated and thoughtful.

That said, this is pricer at £37, though you do get a lot of bang for your buck. My only other criticism is that you only get two tea bags. I would have liked to have a few spare, just in case one bag breaks (which, as we all know, can happen!).

  • Our score: 3.5/5
  • Price: £37
  • Delivery: Included
  • Delivery price: Free next-day delivery
  • Contains: 2 brownies, 2 mini lemon drizzle cakes, 4 buttery scones, 4 mini jars of luxury clotted cream, 1 pot of fruity jam, 2 English breakfast teabags.
ProsCons
Includes scones plus cute mini jars of jam and creamNeeds to be eaten within 2-3 days of arrival
Free and next-day delivery, so ideal for a last-minute gift
Arrives in a 100% recyclable and hand-wrapped gift box

4. Selfridges afternoon tea gift box

Buy on Selfridges

Selfridges are known for their gift boxes, and their afternoon tea delivery box really, well, delivers! You get six items in the package, there’s also a four-item version that’s slightly cheaper, but it’s in high-demand and usually out of stock. With the six item package, you get 20 Selfridges blend tea bags, salted caramel chooclates and dreamy all butter shortbread bites. Plus, you get morello cherry jam and lemon curd, which are both small batch and hand poured (divine).

My only criticism is that there are no scones to spread the jam onto. Plus, this is a pricier gift box wth a larger delivery fee than the likes of M&S or Bloom & Wild. That said, it’s still great quality, and the Selfrridges brand makes for a great gift.

  • Our score: 3.5/5
  • Price: £40
  • Delivery: Standard
  • Delivery price: £5.95
  • Contains: Selfridges Blend teabags (50g), traditional salted caramel shortbread bites (250g), all-butter shortbread bites (250g), lemon curd (205g), British cherry jam (340g), British salted caramel milk chocolate bar (85g)
ProsCons
Generous gift box with six productsHigher delivery fee than others on our list
Includes a cherry jam and lemon curd, which are both small-batch and hand-poured
Reputable brand and makes an impressive gift!

5. Cutter & Squidge afternoon tea at home delivery

Buy on Cutter and Squidge

Cutter & Squidge is well-known for having one of London’s only ‘all-natural’ bakeries, so we had high hopes for their ‘afternoon tea at home’. Handcrafted in their London bakery, you get gooey brownie squares, lemon drizzle cakes, scones with jam and cream plus two teabags. As expected, the cakes are great quality and taste like a lot of love has been put into creating them. Plus, it’s great to see scones included for a reasonable £29.99 price point!

The reason this one isn’t higher? I found the scones were actually a little on the dry side, and reviews online say the same thing. I also would have liked a few more tea bags rather than just the two! But other than that, this is a high-quality afternoon tea and what you’d expect from a London bakery.

You can check out out full review of the Cutter & Squidge afternoon tea here.

  • Our score: 3.5/5
  • Price: £29.99
  • Delivery: Weekdays
  • Delivery price: £5.95
  • Contains: Indulgent brownie squares x 2, mini lemon drizzle cakes x 2, handmade scones x 4, pots of clotted cream x 2, pot of strawberry jam x 2,  Cutter & Squidge English breakfast teabags x 2
ProsCons

Wheat-free option for the same price
Top-tier, handcrafted cakes including lemon drizzle and a brownie

6. Patisserie Valerie afternoon tea delivery

The Patisserie Valerie afternoon tea box is all about the cakes. You get two slices of mini strawberry gateau, mini black forest gateau, strawberry and cream choux, mini eclairs – the whole thing is dreamy. Plus, you also get scones with cream and jam, and tea bags!

Though this is pricier at £39.95, I’d say this is one of the most visually impressive. The cakes are actually delivered frozen, so it all arrives looking like you’ve just bought it from the shop. The only reason it isn’t higher is the price point!

  • Our score: 3.5/5
  • Price: £39.95
  • Delivery: Nationwide
  • Delivery price: Varies
  • Contains: Two each of the following: Mini Madame Valerie Slice (V),  Mini Strawberry Gateau (V), Mini Double Chocolate (V), Mini Black Forest (V), Mini Strawberry & Cream Choux (V), Mini Chocolate Éclair(V), Mini Plain Scones (V), Mini Plain Fruit Scones (V), Mini Clotted Cream, Mini Jam, Tea bag
ProsCons
Huge collection of mini cream cakes and pastriesHigher overall cost
Great quality and taste that you’d expect from Patisserie Valerie
Includes scones and tea bags

7. Piglet’s Pantry afternoon tea box delivery

If you’re looking for value for money, Piglet’s Pantry really delivers. You get so much food for £32.50 – including sausage rolls, scotch eggs, scones, and four different types of cakes! You get more here than some actual afternoon teas served at a real-life venue. Plus, they have multiple afternoon tea gifts to choose from, including an all-savoury version.

Though on paper, Piglet’s Pantry sounds great, it’s not completely perfect. I found the cakes were a little average, truthfully, and the same goes for the scones. Plus, this is a much higher delivery price – and you also can’t control the time of delivery. Your gift box can come anytime between 8am-8pm, which isn’t ideal if you have a specific day in mind that you want to have your high tea!

  • Our score: 3/5
  • Price: £32.50
  • Delivery: Standard
  • Delivery price: £6.50
  • Contains: 2 x Quiche Lorraine, 2 x Traditional Scotch Eggs, 2 x Traditional Sausage Rolls, 2 x Buttermilk Scones, 2 x Rodda’s Clotted Cream, 2 x Tiptree Strawberry Jam, 2 x Carrot Cake Loaf Cakes, 1 x Victoria Sponge Loaf Cake, 1 x Lemon Sponge Loaf Cake, 2 x Tea Bags
ProsCons
Great value for money with savoury, sweet treats and sconesHigher delivery fee than others on our list
Good portions and more than enough for two people
Multiple options including an all-savoury afternoon tea

8. Huffkins afternoon tea hamper box

Huffkins is a lovely (and award-winning) British bakery that’s been in the UK since 1999. Their afternoon tea at home includes four handmade scones, luxury strawberry jam, Rodda’s clotted cream, four brownie slices and a carton of breakfast teabags. The portion size is really great – there’s enough here to serve at least four people, and the scones in particular are a good size. It’s not a tiny scone from a packet situation.

This is a decent afternoon tea hamper, but I did feel a savoury element would have been nice here. I also found the brownies weren’t anything spectacular and fairly standard. Plus, the delivery price is on the steeper end of the spectrum compared to the likes of Cutter & Squidge or M&S. But if you’re a brownie lover, this could be the one for you.

  • Our score: 3/5
  • Price: £38
  • Delivery: Next day or named day
  • Delivery price: £6.96
  • Contains: 4 x handmade scones (2 x Plain, 2 x Fruit), luxury strawberry preserve jar, Rodda’s clotted cream, 4 x handmade triple chocolate brownie slices, carton of house blend tea pyramids
ProsCons
Big portion sizes and perfect for between two and four peopleQuite pricey (but quick) delivery
Includes small batch of Huffkins-branded jam that tastes delicious
Big, homemade scones!

9. DukesHill Afternoon Tea Hamper

DukesHill is an online farm shop that’s known for selling homely but artisan treats. Their afternoon tea delivery box actually comes in a charming 14″ wicker basket and includes tiffin, fruit loaf, flapjacks, shortbread, chocolate and teabags! This is a very giftable hamper and one of the few to come in a reusable hamper.

The reason this afternoon tea isn’t higher on our list is that, although the food items are great, it doesn’t quite feel like an afternoon tea. There are no scones, jam, cream, and there are more biscuit-like treats than cakes. It feels more like a collection of great products than a specially designed high tea hamper. Plus, the price is the highest on our list (and three times as expensive as M&S!)

  • Our score: 3/5
  • Price: £66
  • Delivery: Standard delievry
  • Delivery price: £7.95
  • Contains: Chocolate Tiffin (500g), 2nd Flush Darjeeling Tea Pyramid Bags (x15 bags), Grandad’s Light Fruit Loaf Cake (500g), Flapjack (350g), Handmade Scottish Shortbread (475g), Milk Chocolate, Crunchy Biscuit & Caramelised Pecan Mendiants (150g)
ProsCons
All comes in a charming 14″ wicker basketExpensive delivery fee
Contains six items including fruit loaf cakes and flapjacks

10. Gail’s cream tea kit

Now this one is all about the scones. Gail’s cream tea kit isn’t quite a full afternoon tea, instead, you get three plain scones, three sultana scones plus Rodda’s cream and strawberry jam. Reviews online rave about the scones, and I have to agree, they were pretty good. They weren’t too dry and you also get loads of them – six scones means you can host a whole scone party! Though we loved the scones, I can’t rate this one any higher. In comparison to the others on our list, you can get an afternoon tea delivery with cakes, biscuits, tea bags and more for a similar price!

  • Our score: 3/5
  • Price: £25
  • Delivery: Local delivery only
  • Delivery price: Varies
  • Contains: 3 Plain Scones, 3 Sultana Scones, Clotted Cream and Gail’s Strawberry Jam
ProsCons
Great quality scones for an afternoon tea boxDoesn’t deliver nationwide
Sweet, sticky and handmade strawberry jamJust scones – no tea or sweet treats!
Includes six scones, so you can host up to six people!

How we test afternoon tea home deliveries

We don’t just recommend any afternoon tea delivery service. Every box featured here has been through our own rigorous testing process. We’ve personally ordered, unboxed and sampled more than 50 different afternoon tea deliveries from across the UK. Each one was judged against a set of criteria that reflect what really matters. Our top 10 picks were chosen because they scored consistently well across the board.

Plus, every six months we revisit our recommendations to ensure that our ratings are accurate, up to date, and reflective of any changes in quality. Here’s exactly what we score each box on:

  • Sweet treats: From dainty pastries to indulgent cakes, we look for freshness, flavour, variety and presentation.
  • Scones: The heart of any afternoon tea. We check texture, taste, portion size and whether it comes with jam and cream.
  • Delivery cost: Ideally, delivery will be free. If you’re paying for delivery, we look at the price and how it’s packaged – nobody wants battered scones from a delviery van.
  • Delivery speed: Speed of delivery is everything. We also look at if you can nominate a day or time – so it’s easy to plan your tea.
  • User reviews: Alongside our own testing, we factor in genuine customer feedback to see how consistent the experience is for others. We also look at third-party review sites like Reddit and Trustpilot!
